Twitter is the perfect place to spread the word about your business, website, blog, or cause, if you know how to capture your audience. But with so many tweets being passed around every day, it’s easy for your messages to get lost in the mix. Fortunately, there are ways to make sure your tweets get noticed, and retweeted. Here are 5 tips for going viral on Twitter.
1. Competitions
Everybody loves a competition, especially if it’s free to enter. Set up a page on your blog or website with the details of your competition, and tweet the link to your followers. Remember to add a compelling description to your link, so that your followers will be intrigued enough to click through. If your competition looks interesting, your followers will retweet it for you.
2. News
Set up a subscription to receive alerts for breaking news in your field of expertise, and share the most interesting news with your followers. If you tweet news stories while they are still fresh, and before everybody else tweets them, you will be seen as a source of up-to-date information. Remember, whenever a follower retweets one of your tweets, they also send out your twitter username, and a link to your profile, which will bring in more followers.
3. Security warnings
Online security is a source of worry for most internet users. Sign up to receive breaking news and updates from internet security specialists, such as Trend Micro, and use Google Alerts to keep up-to-date with information on computer viruses, worms, phishing scams, identity theft, and other related information. Tweet the information as soon as you receive it, and add a link for further information.
4. Freebies
Offering freebies is one of the simplest ways to get your tweets retweeted, and it doesn’t have to cost you anything. You could offer a free sample, money-off coupon, or piece of software for your followers to download. These ‘freebie tweets’ are one of the most popular for retweeting, and they are likely to bring in more followers waiting for your next free giveaway.
5. Images
Provide something visual for your followers to retweet; the internet is full of funny photographs and images that you can use for free. Alternatively, you could contact a freelance photographer and ask them to shoot a few interesting scenes for you; they may even work for free if you agree to credit them as the photographer, and provide a link to their portfolio.
