Social Media

Perhaps you are either a member of a business using videos for online promotion and marketing or an individual just doing videos for fun. Either way, you probably would like to have as many people viewing your videos as possible. Perhaps you also have a limited advertising budget or maybe even no advertising budget at all. There are ways, however, to increase the number of views of your videos that will cost you nothing in money, just time and effort.

First of all, the best place to post your videos online is YouTube. Even if you want to have the video made available on your own website, you can still post it on YouTube and put the embed code for the video on a page within your site. Posting it on YouTube will make it more likely to be found by someone running a search related to the topic of the video. This is most important if you don’t have a high search engine ranking for your own website.

Next, you need a means of promotion. The best free means of online promotion is social networking sites. Let’s not forget that YouTube is not only a video website but also has components of social networking integrated into it. Like Facebook and Myspace, YouTube allows you to add friends, post comments, send e-mails and it even displays your recent activity. This fact is often overlooked by many people uploading videos to their YouTube page. As a result, many don’t add a lot of friends to their YouTube account and wonder why they get no views of the videos they upload.

Getting More Views for Your Online VideosSo in order to increase the number of views on YouTube, using their social networking features, you should try to add as many friends as possible. You should also make a point of adding friends that would most likely be interested in the types of videos you want to upload. That would obviously increase the likelihood of them being viewed. The best way to do that is to run a search on YouTube for videos of the type you want to upload. Let’s say you want to do videos on R/C planes. Run a search on them. Look at the people who are subscribers to the videos you find. Then send friend requests to them.

Quite often, when you send someone a friend request, they will look at one or more of your videos and if they like them, they will subscribe to your videos. So now when you post a new video, they will be notified. It may take a while to build up the number of friends to a substantial level or build a large subscriber base, but it will pay off in the long run. Also, nobody says that you have to do it all at once. It could be something you do slowly over a long period of time. It’s really all up to you. Just remember that you will only get out of it what you put into it.

Facebook is a great way of promoting videos as well. Every time you upload a new video, you can post it on your Facebook page. Your Facebook friends will see it in your activity updates and may click on the video to view it. The same can be done with Myspace and Twitter accounts. All of them should be used in conjunction with one another to produce the best overall results.

It is important to add as many friends to the accounts of all your social networking pages as possible. Click-through rates on social networking sites can actually be higher than the click-through rates of some banner adds. What’s even better is that it’s free. It only costs you the time and effort it takes to send out friend requests. You must remember, though, that the friend requests should be sent to the type of people who would be most interested in the subject matter of videos you will be promoting.

On Facebook and Myspace, you can check out groups related to the subject of your videos. Then you can send requests to the people who post on those pages. Be sure to post often yourself. That will make you more visible to others and you will be more likely to have others send you friend requests. A few posts on pages with a lot of activity and traffic may translate into a number of friend requests being sent to you. That would save you the time and effort of sending them out yourself.

It’s also important to remember that it’s better if you are an active participant on the social networking sites. Too many people who are trying to promote themselves through social networking sites don’t interact with others enough and then wonder why nobody seems to care about the things they post on their pages. What often happens is the people will go to their page, post something and not see a response on the part of the person whose page they were on. After a number of times, they understand that it is only one-way interaction and lose interest.

Unless you have a large advertising budget, the methods of promotion outlined in this article are the cheapest, easiest and most effective means of online promotion for your videos. What would be the point of creating videos that no one will get a chance to see? Give the previously mentioned methods a try and you will notice that you are getting more views for your online videos.
